Although there are tentative signs that the Scottish labour market is starting to recover, youth unemployment remains a key concern. Unemployed young people represent a costly and underused resource. The Prince’s Trust estimated that in 2010, youth unemployment was costing the UK economy more than £155 million per week in benefits payments and lost productivity, the costs of youth crime were put at another £23 million per week.

SNH funding for Green Infrastructure Development

SNH funding

SNH is drawing together a funding bid to deliver a programme of Green Infrastructure (GI) development.  This would form part of Scotland’s programme for European and Structural Investment Funds 2014-2020.  The proposal will support a number of strategic projects with a total value of approximately £40 million over the seven year programme.

The countdown is now well underway for the launch of the coast-to-coast John Muir Way.

The new 134-mile lowlands trail will officially open on 21st April 2014, during the first ever Scottish John Muir Festival, to mark both the conservationist’s birthday and the centenary of his death.
