Kelpies come to life

Kicking off an Easter weekend of events to celebrate all things John Muir, thousands of visitors enjoyed viewing Scotland’s tallest art installation lit up for two night-time events to celebrate the opening of the John Muir Way. The 30m high Kelpie horse heads, designed by artist Andy Scott, were brought to life by a light, sound and pyrotechnic display. The Kelpies, which are one of the main features in the new Helix Park, then opened to the public on Easter Monday.

John Muir Way Opens

The First Minister, Alex Salmond opened the John Muir Way on Easter Monday, 21 April 2014. Walkers, cyclists and horse riders now have the chance to enjoy the scenic route from Dunbar to Helensburgh.

Ordnance Survey award for Ramblers Scotland

Ramblers Scotland have won the Ordnance Survey GeoVation challenge and will receive £28,000 to develop a Medal Routes app. Rob Burns and Jeannie Cranfield developed the winning idea of a mobile app to add to the existing Medal Routes website.

Community Links Programme Winners

Sustrans, the transport charity, have announced the 136 winners of the Community Links Programme who will share £14.5 million. The awards will help local authorities and statutory bodies to move forward active travel projects across Scotland get more people cycling more often.
