Diamond Woods fit for the Queen

Three large new native woods are being created in central Scotland as part of the Woodland Trust’s Jubilee Woods project. The Woodland Trust has worked with local authorities in Stirling and North Lanarkshire, and Ayrshire landowner Mark Gibson to create the Borrowmeadow Farm, North Lanarkshire, and Shalloch Diamond Woods, each over 60 acres in size.

I Bike Wins Scottish Transport Award

An innovative scheme aimed at getting more pupils on their bikes, which was piloted at schools in Edinburgh, has won the Best Practice in Travel to School and Work scheme in the Scottish Transport Awards.

The 12 schools involved in the I Bike scheme have reported an increase in the number of children cycling to class, as well as a fall in the number of those being driven. Since I Bike's launch, the number of pupils regularly cycling to school has risen from 10.7% to 19.3%, while the number being driven dropped from 23.9% to 17.2%.

Vacancies - Clyde & Avon Valley

The Clyde and Avon Valley Landscape Partnership is now recruiting two posts to form the core of the Landscape Partnership team that will take forward project activities. The main objective of the posts is to successfully implement a Landscape Conservation Action Plan (LCAP) for the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Landscape Partnership Programme in the Clyde and Avon Valley area. The Partnership aims to conserve, enhance and celebrate the unique landscape and cultural heritage of the Clyde and Avon Valleys. A principal element of this will be raising the awareness of the local community to the value and importance of the landscape and implementing projects that restore important landscape characteristics and heritage features.

The Landscape Partnership Community Engagement Officer will be responsible to the Programme Manager for the delivery and implementation of a wide range of community-based projects.

The Landscape Partnership Built and Cultural Heritage Officer will be responsible to the Programme Manager for the delivery and implementation of a range of projects that will enhance and celebrate the history and heritage of the Clyde and Avon Valleys.

CSGN Orchard Grant Scheme 2012/13 Launched

Forth Environment Link has announced the launch of a third round of funding of its Central Scotland Green Network Orchard Grant Scheme 2012 / 2013.

The scheme, supported by the Central Scotland Green Network Development Fund 2012, aims to encourage anyone with an interest in orchards – including communities, schools, public agencies and landowners - to plant and manage orchards, use them for learning or celebrations, or use the fruit more productively.
