First Minister to Open the John Muir Trail

The First Minister, Alex Salmond MSP, has accepted an invitation from CSGN Chair, Keith Geddes to open the John Muir Trail on 21 April 2014. Access and arts officers from Councils along the Trail met recently in to plan for the opening event and the Chair is also working closely with Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), the John Muir Trust and other partners on plans for next year's launch. An agency will be appointed to coordinate activity across the council areas.

Consultation on the Future of Scotland Rural Development Programme

Scottish Rural Development Programme

The first phase of the consultation on the future of the Scotland Rural Development Programme (SRDP) is now underway.

The SRDP delivers funding to a wide range of rural projects from village halls to farm diversifications. However the current SRDP programme is coming to an end and views are being sought on the SRDP for the period 2014-2020.

Bumper Crop of Orchard Grant Awards

Stirling-based environmental charity Forth Environment Link has announced the award winners of over £16,500 of funding from the Central Scotland Green Network Orchard Grant Scheme 2011/2012.

Sixty community groups, schools and landowners across the Central Scotland Green Network area are reaping the rewards of the funding, supported by the Central Scotland Green Network Development Fund 2011, to establish and manage orchards, increase orchard biodiversity, and use the fruit.

A Study of the Economic Potential of Forth Valley’s Orchard Resource - A Brief for Consultants

Forth Environment Link is inviting consultants to tender for work to carry out a Study of the Economic Potential of Forth Valley’s Orchard Resource.

The study will focus primarily on the Forth Valley area comprising the Unitary Authority Areas of Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling, but with reference to the wider area of the Central Scotland Green Network, and beyond.

The tender return deadline is 9.00 am Thursday, 19 January 2012.

Vacancy - Schools' Officer Forth Valley Orchards' Initiative

Forth Environment Link seeks a Schools’ Project Officer for the Forth Valley Orchards Initiative.

Salary £21,500 - £22,500 pro rata, 14 hours a week until 31 March 2013. There may be a possibility of continuing the post until March 2015, subject to funding.

In this role you will expand the number of school orchards through the Central Scotland Green Network (CSGN) Orchard Grant Scheme 2012/13 across Forth Valley, and develop a network of existing and new school orchard groups to link them to the wider orchard network across the CSGN area. You will provide capacity building support for selected schools gaining funding from the grant scheme and promote school orchards and engage the school community in orchard activities. A background in environmental education, practical orchard establishment and management, and excellent communication skills are essential.

Glasgow scoops top prize for community involvement at Scottish planning awards

 Glasgow City Council was awarded the top prize for Community Involvement at Scottish Awards for Quality in Planning. Facing off competition from all around Scotland, Glasgow’s ‘Stalled Spaces’ initiative was awarded the top prize in the Community Involvement category by Planning Minister, Derek Mackay MSP.

 Glasgow City Council’s Stalled Spaces initiative focuses on the temporary use of vacant or under-utilised land to deliver a range of projects, enabling physical renewal and fostering community empowerment throughout Glasgow.
