The Forestry Commission have published a practice guide for Greenspace Design for Health and Well-Being. It follows consistent messages from research that point towards the positive relationship between greenspace and general health, and how healthcare facilities would logically benefit from this relationship.
The guidance is relevant to the full range of healthcare settings, from health centres general hospital, as well as non-NHS settings such as schools and nursing homes. It is also relevant to both new-builds and refurbishments of existing facilities. The guide sets out best practice and incorporates case studies on the design of accessible outdoor healing environments.
The guide can be downloaded from the Forestry Commission’s website.
