British Cycling has published research into the benefits of investing in cycling. The research shows how the investment benefits a wide range of people beyond just the cyclists themselves.

The report summarises 11 benefits that could help solve a number of health, social and economic problems. The report goes on to show how investment in cycling is good for our wider transport system, local economies, social inclusion and public health.

The report also includes a series of impressive statistics such as:

  • Danish levels of cycling in the UK would save the NHS £17 billion within 20 years
  • Cycling saves a third of road space compared to driving, to help cut congestion
  • Bike lanes can increase retail sales by a quarter
