Lothians & Fife Green Network Partnership hosted two events in partnership with Central Scotland Green Network Trust, Forestry Commission Scotland and Forest Research. These took place on the 28th August and 5th September on the subject of vacant and derelict land and the opportunities for greening.

The seminar in August heard from four speakers with experience of the strategic analysis of sites, treating stalled spaces in Edinburgh, the technical issues of growing trees on disturbed ground and the role of biomass in site remediation.  The second event was based around site visits to firstly a series of tree establishment trials on a former opencast site in South Lanarkshire and then to the Forestry Enterprise Scotland’s Old Mine Nature Park on the edge of Bellshill in North Lanarkshire, a former derelict site with a long history of disturbance.
