Following the success of the Stalled Spaces initiative that won Glasgow City Council an international award in 2013, Stalled Spaces Scotland was launched in July this year. The initiative will support local authorities and communities to bring vacant and derelict land back in to temporary use to benefit local areas.
The national roll-out will be led by Architecture and Design Scotland (A+DS) who will support local authorities and provide guidance to develop local Stalled Space initiatives across Scotland. Sites within town centres are to be considered first, which is in line with the Scottish Government’s Town Centre Action Plan and the Town Centre First Principle. 30 stalled spaces will be identified and developed by December 2016.
The initiative forms part of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games’ Legacy 2014 programme.
A+DS will take forward a programme of consultation with local authorities, signupa guidance document and hold a seminar to inspire and support local authorities, business improvement groups and communities to take their own projects forward.
