Filling gaps in information is a key activity for the CSGN, as such, we recently embarked upon a piece of work which will lead to a definition of ‘green’ or ‘low carbon’ jobs. This study will then go on to quantify the number of Scottish and CSGN employees in this ‘sector’.
Using this data, CSGN will investigate how ‘green jobs’ have been affected in the economic downturn, examine the number and type of hidden ‘green jobs’ within firms, and explore opportunities for growth in this area from environmentally based activities, goods and services.
Recognising that the terminology used in this field of research can be off-putting, the CSGN Support Unit recently held a workshop attended by representatives from a wide range of interested partner organisations. This event was facilitated by leading academics within the University of Glasgow’s Training and Employment Research Unit (TERU).
The aim of the session was to develop an agreed understanding as to what a ‘green job’ is. The results and next steps will be published in the near future.
