North Ayrshire Council

Project background

North Ayrshire Council was awarded £36,000 in 2012 to improve and connect local sites to create a green network for the town of Kilbirnie, improving their value in terms of recreation and biodiversity and making them more attractive and accessible to the local community.

In 2014 North Ayrshire council awarded £17,700 through the CSGN Development Fund to extend the project. This extends the local path network for everyday journeys and recreation providing opportunities for active travel and physical activity. It will predominantly take place on vacant former industrial sites that are currently vandalised, neglected and a blight on the image of the area.

In 2015, a further £22,000 was awarded to construct an all abilities and multi user section of the National Cycle Network (NCN) and create a green network between Nethermains Industrial Estate and Kilwinning Town Centre.
