Andrew Bachell has extensive experience in land management, conservation, planning, forestry and ecology, having held numerous senior positions within public and charitable organisations.

In his current role as Director of Operations with Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), Andrew has operational responsibility for all seven of SNH's local area teams and the national Wildlife Operations and Protected Places Units.

The functions of these teams include management of casework (planning, Rural Development Programme, EIAs, and licencing), input to development planning and development management, wildlife management , grants, direct advice to land managers, local authorities, other public bodies and the public, protected / designated places management, national nature reserve policy and management and other local advisory functions.

Andrew also has a strategic lead role in urban and greenspace issues, landscape, climate change, access, education and volunteering and designations.

Andrew’s work in the public and voluntary sectors has comprised of many varied roles from practical site management through to policy development. He has worked directly with projects, as both the receiver and provider of grant support, and in partnerships, in lead and supporting roles, as well as sitting as a Board member.

Andrew has a great depth of understanding of the ecological and land use principles which underpin the development of green networks and has direct experience in delivering long term broad scale projects.

Previous senior positions held include Director of Strategy and Communications with SNH, Conservation Director with the National Trust for Scotland and Director (Scotland) with the Woodland Trust.

Andrew was also a founder Trustee of the Millennium Forest for Scotland, a £30million project which aimed to create new woodlands for communities across Scotland as part of the millennium celebrations.
